Rulebook

1. Tournament Format

Singles

  • Players will be divided into groups of 4 or 5 depending on the number of players registered.
  • Each player plays every other player in their group.
  • Top 2 players from each group advance to the knockout rounds.

Doubles

  • Teams will be divided into groups of 4 or 5 depending on number of teams registered.
  • Each team plays every other team in their group.
  • Top 2 teams from each group advance to the knockout rounds.

2. Match Format

Group Stage

  • 1 Game, First to 11, win by 2.
  • 15-point maximum cap.
  • If the score reaches 14–14, the next point wins.

Knockout Round

  • Best of 3, First to 11, win by 2.
  • 15-point cap.

Championship Final

  • Best of 3, First to 11, win by 2.
  • No maximum cap.

3. Scoring

  • The serving player/team that wins the rally receives the point.
  • The player/team serving continues to serve after winning the rally.
  • Service changes to the opponent after losing the rally.

4. Serving Rules

  • Serving team should announce the match score before serving (Score Format: Serving Team Score - Receiving Score - Server Number)
  • Serve must be made underhand.
  • Contact with the ball must be below waist level.
  • Serve must travel diagonally into the opponent's service court.
  • The server must stand behind the baseline when serving.
  • A serve that touches the non-volley zone/kitchen or its line is a fault.
  • Players must wait until the opposing player/team is ready before serving.
  • One serve attempt only.
  • No second serve.

5. Two-Bounce Rule

The ball must bounce once on each side before volleys are allowed.

  • Serve must bounce.
  • Return of serve must bounce.
  • After the return bounces, players may volley.

After the two required bounces, players may volley normally.

6. Kitchen / Non-Volley Zone

  • Players may enter the kitchen at any time.
  • Players cannot volley while standing inside the kitchen.
  • A player may enter the kitchen to play a ball after it has bounced.
  • If a player volleys and their momentum carries them into the kitchen, it is a fault.
  • Touching the kitchen line while volleying counts as being in the kitchen.

7. Ball & Line Calls

In-Bounds

A ball touching any part of a boundary line is IN, except for a serve touching the kitchen line.

Out-of-Bounds

A ball completely outside the boundary lines is OUT.

Honor System

  • Players are expected to make honest and respectful line calls.
  • If there is uncertainty, the benefit of the doubt goes to the opponent.
  • Do not argue over line calls.

Disputed Calls

If players cannot agree on a call:

  • Replay the point if the disagreement cannot be resolved.
  • Tournament officials have the final authority.

8. Net Rules

  • A ball that touches the net during a rally and lands legally remains in play.
  • A serve that touches the net and lands legally in the correct service court is LIVE.
  • Players may not touch the net during play.
  • Touching the net with your body, clothing, paddle, or equipment is a fault.

9. Doubles Rules

  • Both players on a team participate in every rally.
  • Teams may choose their starting positions.
  • Players may switch positions after winning a rally.
  • Partners may communicate during points.
  • Only the designated server serves.

10. Player Conduct

Yak Soccer Training promotes competitive but respectful play.

Players must:

  • Respect opponents.
  • Respect tournament officials.
  • Respect facilities and equipment.
  • Avoid abusive or offensive language.
  • Avoid intentionally distracting opponents.
  • Avoid aggressive behavior.
  • Shake hands with opponents after matches.

Zero Tolerance

Fighting, threats, intentional physical contact, harassment, or repeated unsportsmanlike behavior may result in immediate disqualification.

No refund will be given for a player/team disqualified for misconduct.

11. Time & Match Management

  • Players must report to their assigned court when called.
  • Players should be ready 5 minutes before their scheduled match.
  • Matches must begin on time.
  • Players who are not present when their match is called may receive a warning.
  • Excessive lateness may result in a forfeit.

Forfeit

A player/team arriving more than 10 minutes late may be recorded as a loss.

Tournament officials may adjust this rule because of weather, delays, or other circumstances.

12. Timeouts

  • Group-stage matches: No timeouts.
  • Semifinals: One 60-second timeout per player/team.
  • Finals: Two 60-second timeouts per player/team.

13. Medical / Injury

  • Players are responsible for playing within their physical ability.
  • Players may request a short injury break.
  • Tournament officials may stop a match if continuing play creates a safety concern.
  • Severe injuries or unsafe conditions take priority over the match schedule.

14. Weather Policy

Because the tournament is outdoors:

  • Tournament officials will monitor weather conditions.
  • Play may be delayed, suspended, shortened, or canceled due to unsafe weather.
  • Lightning, severe storms, or dangerous conditions will result in an immediate suspension of play.
  • Tournament officials will determine when play can safely resume.
  • If necessary, match formats may be modified to complete the tournament.

15. Group-Stage Standings

Players/teams receive:

  • Win = 2 points
  • Loss = 0 points

If two or more players/teams are tied, standings will be determined by:

  • Head-to-head result
  • Point differential
  • Total points scored
  • Fewest points allowed
  • Tournament organizer's decision / playoff if necessary

16. Equipment

  • Players must use tournament-approved pickleball equipment.
  • Players may use their own paddle unless tournament officials determine that it is unsafe or inappropriate.
  • Tournament balls will be provided.
  • Players are responsible for their personal belongings.

17. Officials & Disputes

  • Tournament organizers have the final authority on tournament rules and scheduling.
  • Players should not stop matches for prolonged arguments.
  • Any dispute should be brought to the tournament organizer.
  • The organizer's decision is final.

18. Registration & Refunds

  • Registration must be completed before the tournament.
  • Entry fees are non-refundable after the registration deadline unless the tournament is canceled by the organizer.
  • Players/teams that withdraw after the deadline may forfeit their registration fee.

19. Sportsmanship

This is an in-house community tournament.

The goal is to compete hard, have fun, and build community.

Play hard. Play fair. Respect everyone.
